Resource needs . . .

of Instructors
Course management providers should not need to provide resources for the instructors.

of Learners
When students enroll in a traditional higher education course, they have incredible educational resources available to them. It is important that students taking an online course be given access to research tools that approximate as closely as possible those that they would have at a traditional university.

The following are some resources that could be made available to learners:

  • a links page developed by the instructor pointing learners to relevant sites on the Internet
  • access to appropriate online databases (such as ERIC) and other virtual library resources

The approach to resources . . .

for Instructors
Other than its help resources, e-education provides no notable resources for the instructors.

for Learners
There is a student services section where the course providers can list the different services available to the students. A sample student services page is shown in Figure 1.

Another useful resource provided by e-education is a workspace where assignments and projects can be deposited. There is the capability to save and submit both individual and group projects. It is also possible for the instructor to deliver assigned work or templates through this resource. See Figure 2 for a screen shot of the workspace.

Other valuable resources are links to online libraries and databases. This feature was blocked on my demo account so I was not able to determine the exact nature of these resources. The gateway screen is designed to accomodate the logo of the school or company offering the course. A sample gateway to the e-library is shown in Figure 3.
