Many people don't realize how important catalysts are to modern society. However, there is a ressing need for solid catalysts whether mixed phrase or heterogeneous mixture. These reactions normally involve large portions of chemicals and are a huge help in reducing factory and car pollutants and can produce cleaner fuels such as hydrogen and methanol.

Enzymes are the most common and helpful type of catalyst. Many of the chemical reactions that happen in the human body and other living things would happen very slowly, if at all. For example, it would take weeks for starch to turn to glucose. Also, factory catalysts are used in industry to make chemical reactions happen quicker.
