Photosynthesis is responsible for fixation of inorganic carbon dioxide into organic molecules with sunlight as the energy source. This is how plants grow and eat. As scientists have thought, "many chemicals could be inexpensively produced by photosynthetic organisms." Mathematical modeling of photoautotrophic metabolism is therefore important to evaluate maximum theoretical product yields so we may find out hoe this works and to expand on this subject to make new chemicals at our own cost. Flux balance analysis based on linear programming is applied to photoautotrophic metabolism. Read the full story
