Look at that pig! He must be terribly ill. Gross! His snout is the color of snot. He’s GREEN! All pigs look pink, right? Sure, some are black or have black spots, but that’s normal. I never even dreamed of glowing green pigs.
A university in Taiwan successfully injected a fluorine green protein in three pigs when they were embryos. Now every part of their body is neon green. I can’t imagine what good it would do to have to try and sleep while your entire body is glowing.
Of course, more research is usually needed to get the full story.
It turns out, the pigs glow only when a blue light is shown on them while in the dark.
This protein was originally taken from jelly fish and then modified. It had been used before in rabbits. Others are trying to use it somehow in order to make glowing hair products and even food. May I say, “Yuck!”?
Is all of this worth it? Isn’t there a better purpose? I certainly hope so. But the research group in Taiwan says these pigs will be used in stem cell research and the study of human diseases. Is it a good thing to be tampering with God’s creation like this? I don’t think so. God commanded us to take care of His creation, not try to control it.
Here is the first article I read on the topic.
