Wheels VS Treads

When you picture a tank, you may have wondered why tanks use treads instead of regular wheels and tires. In the atmosphere of a tank, treads are the best choice. Tank treads use much more surface area to grab at the ground. The more surface of the tanks that is touching the ground, the more friction there is to stop the tank from slipping down a slope. With treads tanks can easily crawl up the side of a steep hill or other similar things.

Wheels only have a small amount of friction. This is the little bit of rubber that is in connection with the ground. A tank would need way too many wheels to equal the friction that treads produce.
