smallpox found!!

Although it was eradicated in 1979, it has been found on some 50 year-old tissue samples in Russia and at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. But it is feared that there may be unregistered reference samples in other countries that have not admitted to having it yet that may use it in chemical warfare against us or our allies.
I think that if we are careful and keep ourselves immunized against it, then we will be just fine, as long as nobody decides to get smart and genetically engineer it so that it is automatically resistant to any known vaccine for the original strain. If you want more info, go to this site

A Few Sources

I don't think you'll have much trouble finding current biology material on the Internet. Here are a few sources you may want to check out:

Science News - This online version of the Science News has a number of articles available online each week. There's an article this week that reports that getting more sleep makes you smarter!

Centers for Disease Control - A bit on the heavy side, but this is THE source for information on infectious disease in the United States.

Biology in the News - This page from the National Biological Information Infrastructure has a full page of links to biological news.

Nature Magazine - The British publication Nature is one of the world's most respected science journals. This page from their website has many interesting articles, including this one on a genetically engineered plant that turns red when it's growing over a landmine!

These are just a few sources. Happy hunting!
